Solar tracking systems for free standing applications

Solar trackers
Have been widely used for many years abroad, but previously they have been an expensive option for solar power generating. At the Wind and Solar Shop, we have been working hard to change this. We now offer LORENTZ single axis tracking systems, coupled together with KYOCERA solar panels and MASTERVOLT G83/1 approved inverters. We have put together packages that are optimsed for performance and for price.Up to 55% extra power can be obtained by using a solar tracker in the summer months and an average of 35% extra annually. Furthermore, no power is taken from the solar array. The system is equipped with a small 5 watt panel will take care of all the solar trackers energy requirements, leaving the solar tracker array to offer all its generated power to the inverter.
How they work
The Lorentz Etatrack Trackers are a single axis tracker, which means they are free to rotate from East to West and fixed in the North to South axis, they are powered by a 12 volt dc motor which in turn is powered by a small 5 watt solar panel, the solar array itself senses the amount of solar irradiation or sunlight, and positions itself to gain the the most sunlight throughout the day, and returning to the horizontal position at night ready for the next day when the sun comes up again, then repeating the process.
The motor that powers the solar tracker use only 3 watts of power each day. Depending on the model of solar tracker they have an array surface area of upto 15sqm or ranging from 500 watts up to 2400 watts, they are on pole mounts which are up to 2.75 m in length and these are sunk into footings of concrete and then re-turfed over the footing.
A comparison graph showing the solar power gained from using solar tracker on a clear day (light blue graph) in contrast to the same sized fixed solar array mounted on a roof top top (dark blue graph). From as early as 8 am the array is fully powered up until past 7 pm in the evening, in most cases a solar array on a Lorentz Etatrack Tracker will out perform solar arrays that are permanently fixed on to roof structures, THAT ARE TWICE THE SIZE. An added benefit is that you do not need a roof aspect that faces South either.
